Roblox, the world’s largest metaverse game platform, is speeding up the expansion of the Roblox ecosystem by strengthening artificial intelligence (AI) technology and creator rewards.
In a keynote speech at the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC 2025) held at the San Jose Convention Center on the 5th (local time), David Buzuki, CEO of Roblox, said, “We will make sure that 10% of the games consumed around the world are played inside the Roblox platform. We will build an ecosystem where anyone can become a creator and make a living with it.”
CEO Buzuki said on the same day that he would raise the developer exchange (DevEx) payment rate for the first time in eight years. Developer Exchange is a system that turns “Robux,” a virtual currency earned from games or items made by Roblox, into cash. Roblox provides a development tool “Roblox Studio” that anyone can use for free, and there are many cases where elementary school students have made games and succeeded.
“Creators earn an average of 8.5% more profit when they cash in the same robux,” CEO Buzuki said. “In terms of the past 12 months, about $95 million (about 132 billion won) is additionally returned to creators.”
Roblox paid $1 billion (about 1.3895 trillion won) to developers for a year as of the end of June.
An app called Roblox Moments, a short-form video function, was also announced. The app allows users to capture or edit gameplay into short videos and share them, and viewers can access the game directly from their feed. The decision is part of Roblox’s “ecosystem virtuous cycle” strategy.
At the same time, Roblox also unveiled a technology to speed up game development and increase immersion with AI. Representatively, it is equipped with 4D object technology that acts like a real thing and real-time voice chat translation for users around the world. At the same time, Roblox also announced safety-enhancing measures.
