Friends of Solana Beach Library announces the third installment of “Civic Series” with “Show Me the Money” which will be held on Tuesday, June 16, at 5:30 p.m.-6 45 p.m. at the Solana Beach Library (157 Stevens Ave., Solana Beach).

Budgets are not just a bunch of numbers on a page, the breakdown of where the money is spent shows where the agency is legally required to spend the funds and what the agency values. Agency budgets are a plan for the flow of money in and how that money is spent. City funds and school board funds come from a variety of sources. When you understand all of the various parts to the budgets and financials, you understand how the agency operates and the whole plan comes alive. Come learn about the process and the plans with other community members, according to a news release.

The Civics Series is a three-part series to promote and increase civic knowledge and engagement through resource sharing and demystifying local government. The first two events in the series have been well received by community members with informative presentations and engaging discussions, the news release stated.

The meetings are sponsored by Friends of Solana Beach Library. For the third installment, Celia Brewer, retired public lawyer, and Melissa Fischel, community member and FOSBL vice president will lead guest speakers Stephen Dickinson, associate superintendent of business services, San Dieguito Union High School District, and Rachel Jacobs, director of finance, City of Solana Beach, through discussions about their local agency budgets and process.

Session Three will follow the money and introduce the importance of understanding budgets and finance, the news release stated.
