NEXUS adds collectible RPG Throne of Chaos to CROSS blockchain platform

South Korean blockchain game publisher NEXUS has added the collectible strategy role-playing game (RPG) Throne of Chaos to its CROSS platform on June 9th.

CROSS is NEXUS’s blockchain-based gaming platform, which lets individual games issue and trade their own digital tokens. Throne of Chaos is the latest in a run of titles the company has brought onto it.

According to a release, Throne of Chaos is set in a dark fantasy world and built around a 60-day seasonal battlefield, with strategic competition and large-scale guild battles at its core. Rankings and rewards reset at the start of each new season, a structure NEXUS says is intended to keep players coming back.

The game runs on what NEXUS calls a ‘tokenomics’ model, the system that governs how an in-game currency is created, earned and spent. Players earn an in-game currency called TOCC through gameplay, including player-versus-player (PvP) battles and seasonal rewards. According to the release, that currency can then be converted into $TOC, a blockchain-based token that can be used across the wider CROSS ecosystem.

NEXUS says the model is designed to keep the token’s value stable. A portion of the fees generated when $TOC is ‘minted’ (the process of creating new tokens) will either be ‘burned’, meaning permanently taken out of circulation, or returned to the seasonal reward pool. The company describes this as a ‘virtuous cycle’ aimed at supporting the token’s value over the long term.

The launch follows a period of expansion for CROSS. NEXUS recently moved the platform from a ‘holding-based’ to a ‘participation-oriented’ network through an upgrade it has dubbed Mainnet 2.0, and rolled out a direct-to-consumer (D2C) storefront called CROSS GameHub.

According to the release, CROSS GameHub features a ‘no-code’ builder, which uses AI to set up a web shop in around 30 minutes once a user enters a store URL, automatically configuring products and themes.

NEXUS’s growing CROSS lineup

Throne of Chaos adds to a lineup NEXUS has been building out steadily. Recent additions include the massively multiplayer online RPG ROHAN2 Global, co-published with Playwith Korea, and Redlab Games’ ROM: Golden Age, while the company has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gran Saga: Idle studio PIED PIXELS. Earlier this year, NEXUS launched AGENTVERSE, a CROSS-based ecosystem for autonomous AI agents.

NEXUS, formerly known as Action Square, was founded by Henry Chang, who previously served as CEO of Korean game company WEMADE and is widely credited as the architect of its Wemix blockchain network.
