Man City star Alex Greenwood teams up with OKX to launch her own NFT trainers reflecting her journey to the top of women’s football

Alex Greenwood has almost completed football, and she doesn’t even turn 30 until September.

She’s played for both Everton and Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, won the quadruple with Lyon, won the WSL Cup, the FA Cup, the Finalissima, the SheBelieves, the Arnold Clark, the Euros, and she holds the Freedom of the City of London. What we’re saying is: if you’re after a world-class full-back or you need your sheep shepherding over Tower Bridge — Alex is your woman.

Greenwood is currently shepherding wingers away from Manchester City’s penalty area to great effect, and City’s training kit sponsor — cryptocurrency exchange company OKX — have taken the opportunity to team up with her to create a set of three exclusive sneakers available as NFTs in the OKX metaverse.

Alex worked with NFT designer Nas to create the sneakers, which represent the three traits that Alex sees as key to her footballing success, and are named as such: ‘Adaptable’, ‘Calm & Patience’, and ‘Commitment & Passion’.

Don’t take it from us, though. Here’s Alex’s take: “Working closely with OKX on these trainer designs has been great. They give a sense of how I approach challenges on the pitch. I’m excited to see them launch in my personal OKX metaverse showroom!”

OKX is buzzing about the project, too. Global Chief Marketing Officer Haider Rafique said, “This experience is truly what Web3 is all about – allowing creators to express their true selves and share their passion directly with audiences. After seeing Alex’s trainers exhibited in the metaverse, fans will be able to take their own unique NFTs of her designs away with them. This is just a taste of the opportunities that Web3 tech stands to bring to creators going forward.”

Alex Greenwood’s NFT sneakers are available via airdrop and as part of the AGF x OKX NFT collection. They’ll be exhibited in the OKX metaverse where you’ll also be able to catch the DJ Grealo x Oliver Heldens DJ set.
