“Using metaverse technology to ensure proper military training in virtual spaces.”
In a recent interview with Maeil Business, Krenjin CEO Im Jin-guk made the remarks. Crenjin is a company that develops metaverse and simulators for defense and industrial training.
Lim’s experience in research and development (R&D) of defense weapons systems played a role in the background of the defense metaverse. He joined a defense company in 1986 and took charge of localization development of parts for the weapons system as his first task, and spent 32 years in the defense weapons system R&D.
However, he started his business in 2018, witnessing the disastrous scene of military training at the weapons development site. To solve this problem, he developed an electronic Kyobo material for weapons operation and maintenance education in a 100% virtual reality (VR) method in 2011 and delivered it to the Army Artillery School, which supported VR-based education.
Currently, Crenzin is developing its business in three pillars: defense, education, and digital healthcare.
In the case of defense, military training can be conducted in a virtual space using metaverse and simulators. It was developed based on large-scale virtual space implementation technology, digital 3D model generation technology, and 3D object precision control technology. CEO Lim explained, “The trainees perform operation and maintenance, and instructors and a number of trainees can enter the same virtual space at the same time for cooperative training.”
It also operates an educational metaverse platform called “MetaEdu Korea.” Students can learn Korean language education in an extended reality environment on a virtual campus. It has also entered the field of digital healthcare and treatment (DTx) for cancer patients.
