Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner cut the ribbon April 8 to commemorate completion of the Fletcher Cove Beach Access Improvement Project.
“When people think of Solana Beach, this is the beach that they think of, this is the first one that they come to and see,” Heebner said, flanked by City Council members and other city officials. “This project has made our Fletcher Cove beach more accessible and safer for our public and for our public safety personnel.”
The City Council approved a resolution in March to mark the completion of the project, which included replacing a beach access ramp, the asphalt concrete walkway immediately south of the ramp, the concrete curb and the metal handrailing, the dissipator grate. There is also a new shower area at the bottom of the ramp, in addition to improvements to the preexisting shower area.
The original dissipator grate was installed almost 30 years ago for the North County Transit District Train Station project and related drainage work, according to the city.
Heebner added that the dissipator grate is “new and pretty and continuing to keep our sand on the beach and make sure we don’t flood it all out.”
