The Solana Beach City Council voted May 27 to approve a $6.7 million construction contract with Tri-Group Construction and Development for the Lomas Santa Fe Improvements Project.
The city received six bids for the project, which had an engineer’s estimate of $6.9 million. With a 10% contingency of $675,000, the total contract value is $7.4 million.
Construction is scheduled to run from fall 2026 to late summer 2027. The city plans to maintain one lane of travel in each direction throughout construction, while monitoring for any necessary adjustments.
“It’s been a long time, it’s been a long road,” Solana Beach City Councilmember David Zito said, noting the 10-year timeline since the planning began. “Very excited to get it moving, I can’t wait to be making use of it and I hope a lot of my neighbors on that side of the city will be making use of it as well because it looks really wonderful.”
Some of the features include a multi-use trail, landscaped seating areas, California native trees and plants.
Council members also discussed minimizing disruptions during opening day at the fairgrounds or other busy times.
There will also be a project website to keep residents updated, in addition to the city newsletter and a dedicated project hotline and email.
“Communication is essential,” Councilmember Jill MacDonald said. “I have no doubt that I’m going to get a lot of phone calls and emails from my neighbors. It’s a route that I travel often, probably every day one way or the other, so I’ll be very interested to see the progress and hope that it requires not too much disruption.”
