Resounding Joy, a San Diego-based nonprofit providing music therapy services across the region, will present The Enchanted Tail, a whimsical story for young audiences performed June 20 by Opera4Kids opera professionals at Calvary Lutheran Church in Solana Beach. Children and their families will enjoy the story featuring a clever fox and a cunning princess who search the magical forest for their lost song. Proceeds will support music therapy services for children and youth throughout San Diego County, according to a news release.
“We are excited to present this opportunity for children and families to experience the power of live music and storytelling through opera,” said Kerri Fox, CEO and executive director of Resounding Joy, in the news release. “Opera4Kids shares our belief that music can inspire connection, spark imagination and enrich lives. While our approaches are different, both organizations are committed to harnessing the power of music to create meaningful experiences and strengthen our community.”
Bernardo Bermudez, director of learning and engagement at San Diego Opera, is co-founder of the nonprofit Opera4Kids which is dedicated to enriching children’s lives through music education. The partnership started when the San Diego Opera and Resounding Joy were recipients of an NEA Creative Forces grant for work with the military. Together, they created a free, creative drop-in program that invited veterans, active-duty service members and their families to turn personal stories into powerful songs.
“We are thrilled to partner with Resounding Joy on this special production,” said Bermudez in the news release. “Both of our organizations believe in the power of music to enrich lives and create meaningful connections. We are excited to bring this joyful introduction to opera to local families while supporting Resounding Joy’s music therapy programs.”
