Mauritius Central Bank Chief Asked to Step Down, Defi Plus Says

Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam has asked central bank Governor Rama Krishna Sithanen to step down, the Le Défi Plus newspaper reported, citing unidentified sources.

Ramgoolam, who is also the finance minister, will hold a press briefing at 11 a.m. local time on Saturday, according to a spokesperson in the Prime Minister’s Office, while declining to comment on the media report about Sithanen. Sithanen did not respond to a text message seeking comment.
